Frequently Asked Questions
Question:  Do I have to fly in order to attend other functions?

Answer:  No you don't have to fly in order to attend other functions.  The majority of people attend the functions without
flying.  Out of approximately 200 people participating, only about 50-60 will actually fly that day. The seminars, etc. are
open to anyone.

Question:  Is the WINGS program open to anyone?

Answer:  The total program that day is open to anyone, such as seminars, door prizes, etc., but the flying part is open
to only licensed pilots.  If there is an instructor available, and all other pilots have been assigned to an instructor, then the
instructor may fly with a student pilot, but the student pilot cannot qualify for a WINGS certificate, etc. The WINGS
program was originally set up for Private licensed pilots and above.

Question:  Do I need to register ahead of time?

Answer:  If you plan to fly, it is best to register ahead of time.  Instructors will be assigned on a first come-first serve
basics.  If you don't register ahead, then you may not get to fly, which is no guarantee any way.  The flight instructors
donate their time free of charge, so we are hoping to have enough volunteer flight instructors for everyone that wants to
fly.  If we know ahead, we can match you up better with an instructor for your aircraft.  Some people may not know until
the last minute if they can come.  If that is the case come on anyway, and we do the best we can to make sure you do
get to fly if at all possible.  If you don't fly, and you plan to come, it helps to know so we can plan the food better.

Question:  How do I register?

Answer:  There are/will be forms in other parts of this web site to fill out if you know you are planning to come ahead of time.
They will be labeled for "Pilots to fly," and "CFI's to fly."  Use the one that is appropriate for you.  If you are going to fly as a flight
instructor, then you don't need to fill out both forms, only the CFI form.  If you don't plan to fly but only attend the other parts of the
program, please use the form for pilots to fly and check the section that will be labeled:
WILL NOT FLY.

Question:
Do I have to complete all three flying hours that day?

Answer:  No you don't.  Weather, time, and other factors may play a part in how much flight time you can get that day.  You can
attend a seminar and then go fly with your instructor for the three flying hours to qualify for the WINGS program, or you may fly
only one hour that day, and finish the other two hours with your flight instructor later.  The WINGS Saturday is set up to try and
finish everything in one day for those that want too, but it's not a requirement.  The main thing is to learn something about safety.
Some just want to attend as many safety seminars as they can, and then fly with their instructor at a later date.

Question:  Will the WINGS program give me an insurance discount if I own an aircraft.

Answer:  In some cases insurance companies do give a discount on insurance premiums because they have determined that
pilots that participate in the WINGS program have fewer accidents.  Check with your insurance company to see if they do.  I think
some give about a 15% discount.

Question:  What is WINGS?

Answer:  Click on this link to go to FAA web site for information also----

Question:  If I don't fly today, how long is the safety seminar I attend today credit for the WINGS program and all I have
to do is fly?

Answer:  Attending a safety seminar is good for 12 months credit for the seminar part needed for the WINGS program.
If you don't fly today, but want to participate in the WINGS program, make sure you get the form today showing you
attended a safety seminar so you will receive credit for attendance at a safety seminar.

Question:  What time will everything start?

Answer:  Check-in/late registration will start around 7:00am or 8:00am.  Breakfast will be about this time also.  Safety
seminars will begin around 9:00am.  The entire program will last until about 4:00pm.  All these times are
eastern/Knoxville times too.

Question:  What food will be served, etc?

Answer:  Free breakfast and lunch will be served as long as the food lasts.  Pilot Oil Corporation  will be providing
free soft drinks all day.  Hopefully we will have coffee that morning.

Question:   How often is this web site updated?

Answer:  This web site is updated very often.  As new information is learned about other aviation news in East
Tennessee or details for WINGS on Oct. 16, 2004, it is added to this site.  Usually I am presently updating something
about 3 or 4 times a week.
