About Us: Brief History of East Tennessee WINGS
About Our Business:  Pilot Safety
Approximately nine years ago the Chief Pilot for the State of Tennessee
sent a letter to several people involved in aviation in the East Tennessee
area stating that the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission wanted to fund a
WINGS program for Tennessee.

The state envisioned a WINGS program for West, Middle, and East
Tennessee.  Knoxville was chosen, because of it's more central location in
the east part of the state, to be the location for East Tennessee WINGS to
cover the eastern part of the state.

From that point, East Tennessee was planned by a committee and the first
East Tennessee WINGS was held at TYS.

The first WINGS weekend had approximately 50 people attend, and the last
WINGS held, had approximately 225-250 people attend.  Of this last
number about 50 pilots actually flew, and the rest attended the pilot safety
seminars only.

This will be the first time that the East Tennessee WINGS program will be
held at DKX, and the first time since 9/11 attacks.

Each year the program has grown with the number of people participating,
the increase of corporate sponsors, and because everyone seems to learn
something and enjoy it.

Insurance companies say that pilots who participate in the WINGS program
have fewer accidents and as a result, many of them will give discount on
aircraft insurance.

Finishing the WINGS program also counts as a flight review.

So come join us on Oct. 16 at DKX for free flying with an instructor for
WINGS, attend safety seminars, and enjoy a period of social time with fellow
pilots.

Remember, breakfast and lunch are free along with a free WINGS t-shirt.

Also there will be door prizes given away during the lunch period,

You may attend one of the safety seminars and then return to your home
base to fly with an instructor to finish the requirements for the WINGS
program.

So come join us for some FREE (CFI) flying, and safety seminars, and LOTS
of fellowship with you pilot friends.
